At Sonoran Frost Dentistry we understand how important urgent dental care is when the unexpected happens. Possible emergencies include: chipped/broken teeth, toothaches, knocked out teeth, etc.

Knocked out teeth are unpredictable and will have to be watched. The greatest chance of the tooth surviving is in children. If a baby tooth is knocked out, there usually is no reason to try and put the tooth back in. However, time is of the essence if an adult tooth has been knocked out, pushed back or pushed up.

If a tooth has been knocked out, do the following:

  1. Attempt to put the tooth back in the socket. Be sure to only handle the tooth by the crown or chewing part. Try not to touch the root of the tooth with your fingers. Rinse any dirt from the tooth with water and don’t scrub or use soap.
  2. If you can’t put the tooth in the socket, be sure to keep it moist in a container. The best liquid to store it in is Save-a-tooth or related products that have the correct pH and tonicity.
  3. See a dentist or endodontist within 30 minutes of the injury if at all possible.
